Should the Gypsies have been evicted from Dale Farm
25 Answers
Last evening I watched the BBC 1 programme on the eviction of gypsies from Dale Farm. Most of the inhabitants seemed to be females of various ages who seemed to be concerned for the future of their children, reasonable and many with strong religious convictions, it was explained that the men did not wish to appear as it may spoil their employment opportunities, it was not explained why appearing on screen may spoil their employment opportunities.
I do hope those who supported their cause on site left their addresses in case the gypsies found they needed somewhere to live.
Based on this programme why do the local residents not seem to enjoy the presence of these people?

There were two programmes on Dale Farm last evening, BBC and Channel 4 I think? To my mind this is propaganda for the travellers of Dale Farm. The fact it's taken 10 years and oodles of cash to remove them, speaks volumes. And if there were no men around, that would be common practice, it looks better on TV if there are only women and children, gets a lot more...

"it was not explained why appearing on screen may spoil their employment opportunities. "
As it'll be easier to spot the oik who nicked something from you if they're on telly.
"Based on this programme why do the local residents not seem to enjoy the presence of these people? "
Because they're low lifes, with little to no regard for anyone else.

IMHO, they should have been moved to the near-empty official site years ago and all this conflict and expense would never have happened!
if *certain* men didn't wish to be identified, it would be more likely to be because of fears of police detection, than fears of detering potential employers! i thought travellers worked for themselves anyhow?

If they gave a toss about their children getting an education then they would ensure they were actually at school every day and not pull the girls out aged 12 to be skivvies.
Also, if their biggest concern is their children then they would have accepted the housing offers made to them by the council and not used the excuse they are 'traveller people' as most of them live in nicer houses than me. Not caravans.

I watched it last night - the lack of men folk was very evident, for the reasons others have stated. I think it was very well presented by 'Richard' who the gypsy ladies kept referring to, but we never saw his face. There were also a lot of crocodile tears by the older ladies. As I said, very well presented.
Why do these people think they live above the laws of this land, its simple-if you don't have planning permission to use the land its illegal and you must move.As for the people who feel sorry for them, perhaps they might like them to go and live in their gardens and happily clear up the mess they would leave. The men didn't want to be identified because they are probably wanted by the authorities not because they didn't want to spoil their job prospects.
