What's the Best Conditioning Hair Colour?

I can't afford to have my hair done at the hairdresser these days. I usually have a mixture of golden blonde highlights in packages with an all over colour in between to cover the grey.

I've decided to buy an off the shelf colour this time, but I've never used one before and don't want to end up with hair like straw.

Can anyone recommend a Brand of Hair dye that will leave my hair in decent condition? I know there are some organic and herbal brands out there. Are these any good?

Any advice from fellow dyers would be gratefully received. Thank you.

The majority of hair dyes are very nourishing nowadays. Garnier nutriese is well known for it's conditioning properties. Garnier also do a range of highlights which are really easy to use. I use them on my mums hair after covering the greys with superdrugs own brand permanent dye. You really need to invest in a good conditioner to keep your hair from going strawlike. Aussies colour mate intensive conditioner is what my mum uses and her hair is in tip top condition. I use John Frieda which is excellent also. :-)

I use L'Oreal Excellence Creme every four weeks. My hair feels good and the grey coverage is fine. They include enough conditioner to use a couple of times between colouring. It is not the cheapest but i like it.
