Itunes Alternative Music

Can someone please tell me why itunes decided that alternative music is basically just rock music... yet they have sections for "rock" and "metal"

heres an awsome example - i love a tune called "pipe one" by an artist called "blindoldfreak" - now i hate rock music in general it just does my head in - but if you listen to pipe one thats the kinda stuff i like. BUT because its classed as altenative itunes directs me other supposed alternative artists and all i hear is bloody rock music What The Funicular?!

shouldnt pipe one be electronic or experiemental? does anyone know why alternative genre is so called and why its basically rock music anyway?!

does anyone else find this annyoning on itunes?!

No, I think I can honestly say that I don't find it annoying, or even give it much of a thought at all.

obviosly no one here likes music as much as i do am always on it looking for new tunes :P

Not an answer to why iTunes do what they do but search on last.fm for similar artists and music (see link below) then buy from iTunes:
