Does anyone know what this movie was called?

Its was an old American war movie and it was probably in black and white. It involved a US soldier who was a POW on board a German ship. The ship was damaged and pulled into a fiord for repairs. The soldier managed to escape with a rifle and spent most of the movie in the hills sniping the German crew as they tried to repair the ship. He managed to hold up the repairs until an allied ship came.
