It now seems quite acceptable for men to kiss upon meeting or departing. Sometimes half in jest but sometimes in line with our continental cousins. Obviously not in business circles. I think it's quite refreshing that men can display their friendship in this more intimate way. What say you?

Cheeks (face!).
I can remember thinking once how girls/women greet each other with a hug and a kiss but not men and wondered if perhaps it's because people will say, 'nudge nudge, did you see that' and just think the men would be gay and yet as you say, our continental cousins do it so I don't know.
Will be interesting to see what the men say on this subject.
ah the old "mwah mwah" :)
I think i can honestly say, hand on heart, that I really don't care one way or another how blokes greet each other. Not something i've ever really taken any notice of?

Boo. Fair enough.
I see a lot of blokes greet by briefly touching a clenched fist these days

That's SO last decade cazzz.
Not quite a hug and a kiss Cazz.
I hope some of the males on here will give a serious answer 'cos it is something I've wondered about.

Me too missprim.
The hand shake served a practical purpose, it showed that you were not brandishing a sword. The left hand shake (as used in scouting circles) came from African tribesmen who would have to out down their shield to shake with their left hand, thus showing trust.
I've never seen the point of this continental style greeting (unless, of course, you are on the continent) and it can be a social nightmare... One cheek, two cheeks or even three depending on the country.
typo *have to put down*

I'm not talking about the formal mwah mwah pretentious air kiss. I find it more and more common (possibly when alcohol is involved) to give a stubbly kiss on the cheek when meeting or departing between completely heterosexual men.
I'm all for something a little more affectionate than a handshake, especially amongst friends and family. To see two middle aged brothers (who like each other) shake one anothers hand seems so remote. Air kiss and a whack on the back is much better. Hugs and kisses best.
Well... no, I'd back away other than being polite! High five ect... is acceptable by bro's and a hug is sorted... bye bro etc... but no...!

they have they own way of doing things in Europe... so do we.
Zacs-master would you greet another male in this way?
you are not going to get honest answers from a lot of people, some who have given their honest views in the past have been hounded then banned from the site
