Did I skip the boring bits in the book or is this not a good adaptation?

Never read the book, but tonight was boring, boring!! Shan't bother next week.
i read the book. but OMG this adaptation was painful to watch at times, the leading male actor and actress were dreadful, but i will watch next week.
Doh! It looked so good too. I recorded it to watch later. I read the book some years ago and enjoyed it so was really looking forward to this adaptation.
dont let us put you off watching , you may enjoy it.
I'll give it a look tomorrow whilst tackling the pile of ironing lurking in my dining room :)
Well I loved it
Sorry my firefox playing up tonight!
Meant to say I loved it, can't wait til next week, it was a bit hard to understand the story not having read the book, but once I got into it, I thought it was brilliant.
That fills me with optimism Ann. Almost looking forward to my ironing tomorrow now :)
We really enjoyed Birdsong..can"t wait for next part.
I thought it was dire - which is a pity because I enjoyed the book, but really the two main actors spent more time gazing longingly at each other than anything else. I won't bother with next weeks episode now.
That about sums up how I feel Islasum!!
I loved the book but this was a bit slow, especially at the beginning, so stay with it. I think the use of flashbacks made it more difficult to follow, yet in the book it is done in chronological order.
It should get better next week when more happens. They had to cut down on the gore though, but the Battle of the Somme next week may change that.
I thought the lead actor played Wraysford very well, he is supposed to come across as very cold and unfeeling in the book.
mrs kou refused to watch it on the basis that it contained depressing stuff about war, so we watched something else. when i did flick back to see it every now and again, there just seemed to be a lot of skulking around like islasmum refers.

i am inclined to think i had a lucky escape.
I know its nothing to do with the story or the book but the lead character has got such a weird face I couldn't concentrate on the programme - just kept looking at his face - is there something wrong with him or is it me?
i agree ^^^. he looked as if he just had plastic surgery.
yes.
Book was boring , that woodentop playing the lead is a pain so I voted with my remmote and watched anotherside.
I liked it.
