The above is from Puccini's Tosca. I love this being sang by Placido Domingo, Pavarotti cannot sing it with as much feeling in my opinion..my question is this.. What are they actually singing about.. It sounds so sad, and is sung with so much feeling. But I don't know what it's actually about.

domingo is my favourite tenor ever, he is singing that the stars are above and they are there for him and his love, desdomona, who he has lost (he thinks), nobody ever will portray otello as placido. best tenor ever........the stars are brightly shining...who needs words. the voice says it all..

This is the only song that has ever bought a tear to my eye without actually understanding the words. I.ve always thought it was about someone dying it is so so sad. Love it
Yellow are you mixing your arias?
De Stella is from tosca not otello
I echo all the plaudits for Domingo though
ok. here we go....:how the stars seem to shimmer, the sweet scents of the garden, how the creaking gate whispered and a footstep skimmed over the sand, how she thenentered, so fragrant, and thenfell into my two arms. ah a swsweetest of kiss, languorous caresses, while i stood trembling searching her features concerned by her mantle, my dreams of pure love, for gotten forever, all of it,s gone noe, i die helpless, idespairing
yes you are right, i just get excited that people are interested in opera. ...not just rich folks.
Both are great operas and placido is fantastic in both
Sammmo, have you heard the great tenor Franco Corelli sing this? Now there's a tenor who knows how to put feeling into a song!

When this is requested on Desert Island Discs it"s nearly always that they ask for Franco Corelli's version.
