Does anyone else find it funny that Tim Wonnacott is useless at simple maths despite often telling us about the posh private boarding school he attended?

He can never work out how much change the contestants have to give him from £300 and often gets it wrong.

Glad I went to the local Comp!

It was an Educationally Subnormal School, silliemillie, West Buckland, hardly posh.....

Thanks for that DT, he makes it sound posh & with that accent its believable.

Still doesnt excuse his lacking in simple maths skills. Even primary school children can subtract from 300.

I always laugh when the contestants buy something with a 50p on the end, knowing that Tim will struggle with that one later!!

Yes Bill, i know what you mean, we do assume they have a better education bt then so they SHOULD otherwise whats the point in parents spending all those extortionate fees if they come out worse?

I would be livid if I had paid for my kids to go & they came out not learning even the basics.
to be fair, they could be number dyslexic and, back then, in the year dot, there weren't many remedial programmes to (i) diagonise it (ii) remediate it (iii) use "assistance" strategies.....

My daughter has a reading difficulty that once would have classified as dyslexia but isn't. She can read perfectly ok, the issue is knowledge retention and, once identified, she has undergone remedial action to correct this....(not in this country though)
Going to private school just means his parents could affort it - it's not like going to public school, where the name of the school carries kudos.

I'd like to know how many pairs of specs he's got, some of them are hideous!
and who is his fashion adviser....?
Schooling is just a choice that parents make.

Some families spend their money on Mercedes cars and nice houses. Some spend it on school fees. Some spend it on holidays.

It's not an issue of posh, or anything ... it's a simple choice that people make.
I feel quite comfortable about Tim W and his mental arithmetic being useless at it myself. Some of the contestants make us smile though.
now that Kate Bateman is very cute.....
Another thing about the show .No body pays commission they get the full money they win yet on davy dickenson,s show he tells them what they get after selling costs . does the bbc pay to get thing auctioned also .
I think TW is very jolly.

I do agree Jayne, its your personal choice what you spend your money on but if I spend 45K on a Merc I expect it to run better than my 9k Ford. if I spend good money on an assumed 'better' education i would expect my kids to get it otherwise whats the point?

Anyway regardless of what school he went to, as a grown man he should be able to subtract from 300 by now. LOL!
I do hate how he changes his glasses several times during an episode, I know its not impostant but it is irritating, especially the brightly coloured ones!
Does it matter Weecalf? Its just a pleasant show and if they take an elastic view of reality fair enough. Once made a film for BBC and have no illusions!
the programme where they set him up with a spoof, dropping antique plates, was a good one.....hook, line and sinker.
I think he's a nice chap, and he's anything but dense, he used to be Director at Sotheby's- not a position an idiot could ever have climbed to to be honest, so his 'inability' to add up ( never noticed it myself) certainly doesn't seem to have mattered in the big scheme of things.
I like TW, he makes me laugh
it's not a serious auction, weecalf - if the BBC pays commission, it's because they stump up the money in the first place for the £300 purchases! With Dickenson and Flog it!, it's real people's money, so they have to know what the net amount will be.
Need I say more.
