Does anyone remember Charlie Chaplin shown on BBC 2 in the evenings back in the 80s? I remember it had a sad end theme tune comprise of violin and cello. I'd be grateful if anyone can give me a link to hear it again.

OK, it's a pure guess but, if I was to choose an appropriate piece of music to end such a programme, it would have to be 'Smile' (for which Chaplin wrote the music).

I don't remember a particular programme about Charlie Chaplin but there was a series about the silent movies called Hollywood which had a lovely theme tune with violins and cello but I think that was maybe on ITV could that be it?

Thanks Buenchico. I think that's the tune but might have been altered to fit in with the TV series.

See if this works. Media URL: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=you+tube+for+charlie+chaplins+limelight&source=web&cd=6&ved=0CEQQtwIwBQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DK5f_AG-SR24&ei=KFNUT56qHIWaOsO3jJsK&usg=AFQjCNEKYiz5PQd9bPASc9aRnaaV-QOFfw
Description:
This is the original of Limelight, apparently. I reckon the theme you're looking for kicks in at about 2 minutes. And you're right, it's really sad, but absolutely glorious.
