What do you think of it so far? I like Sarah as a stand-up, but she seems very wooden, unnatural and scared in this. It's quite well-written but I find myself focusing on her fear more than her punchlines. Her voice is more squawky than ever, maybe due to nerves. When I look at her I'm reminded of Mrs Merton, Caroline Ahern's creation of the 1990s
How weird - that's EXACTLY the same things we said at home watching her last week (even down to the bit about her reminding us of Caroline Ahern).
She seems way too 'static' during her stand up bits, and it seems that the producers have thrown everything into the mix (bit of stand up, some interviews, some sketch-based material) hoping something sticks.
I love her as a stand up, and would go to see her live in a shot - but the telly show needs to be re-thought.
I thought exactly the same. It's all very stilted and wooden as you say which is not good for supposed comedy. I like her normally but she seeemed to be making very hard work of this and it makes it hard work to watch. The content was funny but the delivery is ruining it. I'll probably watch the second one just to see if it's improved but if not I'm not sure I have the endurance for a whole series.
As a half-Geordie myself, I'm wondering if there's every been a good North-East comedian. Ross Noble is rubbish, and Bobby Thompson was simply awful. Alan Armstrong doesn't really count as he's done his best to lose his Northumbrian accent.
I got into her by watching a I've DVD she released (I think) in 2011. I thought she was genuinely HILARIOUS...really had me doubled over. I shouldn't worry about her live - that seems to be her comfort zone.
I was a fan of this lady till I saw her show. I just don't find it funny, particularly when she asked the audience what type of animal they'd like to sleep with ??????
To me she seems constrained by the TV format and its limitations for her (and most of today's so called stand up comedians) ie. you can't do your stage act on TV. When she's back on the road she will be able to be foul mouthed and will no doubt give a better show.
