Everest, the hard way

There was a documentary on years ago about the only man to have climbed Everest sea level, and I think also without oxygen. Anyone remember his name? and when it was done any other details? Thanks

From sea level
Chris Bonington wrote a book called Everest the Hard Way, but I don't know if that was the one; I don't think sea level was involved. Reinhold Messner has climbed Everest without oxygen more than once - was he the one?  Also, didn't the Goons climb it from the inside? That sounds quite hard.
