A very interesting game this wekend. Some playres were obviosly readers and others non-readers, but there were probably those who thought it was a double bluff and despite there being what appeared to be obvious hints, shied away and went for something else instead.

Yes, 'Princess Diana' aka 'grannydi' gave strong hints in her preamble as to what you should pick.
There was much mentioning of plants flowering culminating in "Before we know where we are, the fruit trees will be in flower".
Then who could fail to pick up on the Wordsworth quote . . . 'A host of golden daffodils'. (Well, obviously, most of you.)
Then there was the reference to the grass being cut revealing over 180 shades of green.
Did you never stop to question why our 'Princess' bombarded you with all those Latin names and never once mentioned their common names?

This is what our 'Princess Diana' chose to tease you with:
CHERRY BLOSSOM
GOLDEN DAFFODILS
GREEN GRASS or GRASS GREEN
LATIN NAME (I feel sorry for MirandasMum who has the right idea but opted instead for 'Binomial Name'.

Although all four links were found within the first minute - an amazing feat in itself - three of those links were only chosen by three later players.
It looked like the game was going to be one of the lowest on record, but CHERRY BLOSSOM came to the rescue, being the popular choice of 14 players.

Roslyn251254 was first out of the shrubbery gates and immediately knocked off CHERRY BLOSSOM and GREEN GRASS for 4 points

Player #3, Euphemia, then picked off the other two: GOLDEN DAFFODIL & LATIN NAME for her 4 points.

Because all four bonus points had been triggered in the first minute, The window of opportunity closed at the end of the third minute, but nevertheless, there were a couple of claimants.
Manxiemo earned 4 points for both 'cherry blossom' and 'golden daffodil' while fordward only qualified for 2 points.

Thereafter only single points were available but there was on further double-hitter in the form of a recent newcomer to the game 'DickyTheCook' (2 points).

With three players scoring 4 points then who do I choose for the hotshot? Well, I think the most impressive was the player who hoisted herself out of 'The Free-fall Club', so . . .

Well done to the points scorers this week, I was thrilled to see all my choices being chosen within the first 2 minutes. That doesn't often happen.
See you all next weekend when our champion will be crowned. Must get the pen and paper out and think about what I will set for you!
Thank you gen, back to normal nil points - just knew last week was a fluke.
Thank you, just made it. Must do better. x
Thanks gen2...I must pat attention to preamble in future!
Question Author
Pauline (and others) please note that not all setters hide hints in their preamble. Also, those setters that do drop hints , don't always do so every week. Some even leave red-herrings (or Norfolk capons).

Extract from the preamble whatever you will but use it at your own risk.
Nothing again - normal service resumed.
Congrats to the scorers and thanks to gen2.
Thanks grannyDi and gen2. My guesses were nowhere near right, but congratulations to all who scored points.
Thanks again grannydi (I seem to be on your wave length now, but better not speak too soon!!) & gen2. See you all next Sat.
Thank you gen2 and grannydi. Delighted to have finally scored some points.
