Just seen the beginning of a repeat of Doc Martin where he had to brake
suddenly because of a sofa in the middle of the road. His airbag inflated yet
he managed to continue his journey. How is this possible?

Because it's telly land? (I hate when you see a car that's supposed to have driven miles, but you can see the exhaust fumes coming out.)

Must be summat up with his airbag- surely shouldn't go off unless there's an impact?

Whenever you see somebody driving a vehicle in a show, whether it be documentary or drama, it is on the back of a low loader or on private roads.

No 'star' is insured to drive on the public highway whilst being filmed. This is why the 'driver' is very often looking sideways at the camera and talking instead of looking at the road ahead.

Because it's a bit of a fairy story.
I once saw a film with Omar Sharif, who had chased the villains up hill and down dale for ages in a car. When he finished, his briefcase was still on the seat.
My bag always falls off, and I don't do car chases.

It's like the famous water bed episode on Coronation Street, where it sprung a leak and flooded the house. This would be very unlikely, and is said to have damaged the sales of water beds to this day!
