Beyonce's Newest Album
Hello,
My name is Grace and I am in a Journalistic Writing Class. My current assignment is to write a review. I am doing it on Beyonce's latest album 4. If you have any opinions on the album please answer. Or if you could give it a rating from 1-5 'stars' that would be fantastic. Thank you!

The idea of a review is that you absorb the piece, note your own feelings and views about it, jot them down and then write them up in a way that explains it to other people.
In a situation such as yours, you write the review, ask opinions and then maybe take a poll.
Do that assignment. Close your eyes. Listen, and write down every feeling it gives you.
You'll enjoy the end result much more than just asking people to do it for you. :)

but why do you want to collect other people's ideas? Surely you need to work out your own responses and put them down on paper (or on a screen, anyway)? The best way to get a feel for this is probably to read other album reviews, not necessarily Beyonce's, any would do. Which is your favourite track? And why? Do you think her music has progressed since her last album? (You don't have to pretend to know her past work if you aren't familiar with it, but it might help if you are.) Is there anything you found particularly exciting or disappointing about it?
Good luck.
Good luck.
Let me make this very clear Mojo-Jo-Jo.
I didn't ask people to do this assignment for me. I am actually very capable of doing it myself thank you very much. I have already written the base of the review. I am simply asking people for their opinions in the case of quoting and asked for the rating so I could use it as data. So before you go commenting on my question like this, think about it.

And to you jno,
I am aware of what the assignment is. I know how to write a review. Obviously you did not understand my question. The only reason I asked for other's ideas on the album is to get some different opinions. I am very firm on what my opinion on the album is, I am familiar with her previous work, I know what my favorite track is, etc. I am simply wondering for the sake of myself.
Thank you.

are you sure you need "data" in this sort of writing? Reviews are normally personal pieces; they're signed by the reviewer and it's understood they represent his or her opinion - not even that of the publication they are writing for. Rounding up the reaction of others may be perfectly valid procedure, but it sounds more appropriate to writing a news story than a review.
You came to an advice site asking for advice.
I wonder if you'd view your responses to helpful answers the same way in 10 years from now.
Before you slam people for their reading comprehension, why not take a look at the amount of information provided in your question. You have dismissed the first two answers based on your knowledge of the subject, not ours.
If you're just looking for reviews and ratings then why not Google just that.

you didn't say any of that in your original post. One of the important things in journalism is giving all the details. You write literately; there's no reason why you shouldn't do well. But if your question had included the information you've subsequently given, you'd have got better-informed answers right from the start.
Sorry, I don't know the album you're reviewing so I can't help there.

4grace4 - if nothing else, from the responses you have recieved, you will have learned a valuable journalistic lesson - writing is a seriously precise form of communcation, and misunderstanding by readers is to be expected, it simply goes with the territory.
Therefore, you should always be willing to accept that misunderstanding is often down to your initial communication, at least as much, if not more, than the reader, and their following response. If you adopt that approach with everyone except the obviously provocative and nasty responses you receive, it will stand you in good stead.
Opinion pieces are of course, just that, opinions, and there is nothing wrong with inviting a variety of thoughts to assess alongside your own.
But if people misunderstand your initial request, then you have to give them the benefit of the doubt becuase that is good manners, and it will ensure future co-operation.
Alienating your readership by upbrading your perception of their failure to understand you is the province of a few very very few experienced high profile writers who can do this with wit and high intelligence.
Hope this has been of use.

I don't think 4grace4 was rude or arrogant at all. If mojo-jo-jo, which is a damn stupid name, and jno think 4grace4's response is rude they should take a look at their own answer. You clearly assumed she had no idea how to write a review or that she was asking people to write her review for her. And jno why not? 4grace4 has the write to ask other people for the opinion and if you haven't even heard the album why would you comment at all?
