strangely it hasn't dated, after all how many people are trying to do the same, grow your own food, allotments are at a premium, and self sufficiency is a good thing. It's a good comedy that has weathered the years. as to Tom, he wasn't a bully, or egocentrical or whatever was said, but a man on a mission and Barbara was his helpmate, wife, why should that be wrong. I loved the programme and still do, wish they would show the lot, then can wallow in nostalgia.

em10 - I merely pointed out that i agreed with Richard Briars's assessment of Tom as an unpleasant character. To enjoy any sitcom, you have to empathise with the main acharacter(s) or it won;t work. I could never empathise with any of the characters - however I accept that I am in the minority because millions of viewers, yourself included, did and do still love this series.
