A few years ago i watched a great film on TV about a pianist. I can't remeber who starred in it or much of the plot but I think it was made in the 90s (80s at the earliest). It involved a young man who I think was abused by his father, he became a great piano player but had nervous breakdowns and it ended him playing in some concert and collapsing on the piano. There were also scenes in which he was down and out playing in little cafes for fun. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? I would really like to see it again!

It sounds as though you are talking about Shine. An excellent film starring Geoffrey Rush
