it starts off melodic and then all screechy and wailing when the rain comes
driving me nuts cos i cant find it!!!

You've also got Remember The Rain by Bob Lind, Rhapsody In The Rain by Lou Christie, The Rain, The Park And Other Things by The Cowsills, Don't Let The Rain Come Down by Ronnie Hilton all good tracks in the 60s off the top of my head but if it has screeching and wailing in it then the Mr Murray song Down Came The Rain sounds favourite to me.
