Was so shocked when they shot those male baby calves in the head that I burst into tears. I had no idea that they slaughtered all the newborn males because they had no use for them. So sad : (

Lambs are essentially 'free range' and many of us now only buy chicken and eggs that are free range or similar.
Calves were (and still are in some countries) placed in crates with very restricted movement and kept there for months until they were killed for veal.
It was that cruelty that put most people off veal.

i am a vegetarian, and i find everything to do with the whole meat and fish industry abhorrent
but i am a bit confused - why are they of no use? i realise its a dairy farm, and im not supporting it either way i am just confused why they arent sent to a meat farm or something to grow up...? is there something wrong with male meat?
however from a totally business point of view i suppose its a massive cost to house and feed them, for no reward. they would soon have thousands of them - they are not pets - so i sort of understand why they want rid ...
but thats the problem really - having a logical reason do to something doesn't make it ok or acceptable.
it is still cruel and i dont think the 'benefits' (ie the females) warrant the pointless slaughter of so many animals.
