Can someone give me a recap of what happened to Carmel and in what way she 'isn't going to recover fully'?

She was using Michaela's self tanning machine - a bar one she had in front of her face and it went boom in her face (honestly, try to Youtube it if it's there as it was a bit random and out of the blue!).

Recovery wise from what I understand it's that some of the deep facial scarring at least is likely to be permanent.
