Our main TV has freeview built-in, but the smaller unit has not despite only being 3 years old. Can AB'ers please recommend a set-top box ?

Cheap as chips these days. You can get one with full recording facilities for under £100. For viewing only, less than £20.
Was about to say they are more or less commodity items now.

That said when I last got a replacement I went for an HD version from Tesco. The TV may not be able to display the benefit but at least I get to see what is on those HD channnels that otherwise just tell me I need an HD receiver. Unconvinced it was worth the extra though. Difficult to find much worth watching these days that you haven't already seen.
