Wow, that was a long time ago - I'd forgotten all about it. I was really addicted to the series.
There are many of these "yesteryear" series I'd like to see out on DVD. I am waiting for "Alias Smith and Jones' (but with Pete Duel) to be released on DVD but I think I'm being an optimist.

You could try searching the BBC shop

www.bbc.co.uk

cult shows forthcoming releases are also listed on

www.zetaminor.com

www.play.com are good at listing items on release and those that are due for release in months to come... No mention of Colditz, though, at least not the old one.

Were they ever released?

No, they escaped !!!

Boom, boom! (Sorry, katreen, unhelpful answer I know, but I couldn't resist it).

unfortunatly this programme was made during the era in which it was the norm to wipe tapes after the repeat series. Shows such as Dads Army, The Likely Lads and a lot of Play for today were just wiped 'cause they needed the tapes. Also serials were longer in those days- it was not unusual for a serial to be 26 episodes long! So even if just one or two were wiped it would stop them putting the series out on DVD
Im nearly sure I saw the series on sale last Xmas but it was on VHS ....was looking for the series Richman Poorman for my parents.... but really loved Colditz .....
Type in Colditz TV in ebay -copies of the series are offered for sale
