My Dad has recently switched to digital freeview and is a bit bamboozled with all the new channels.
I would like to be able to give him a list including the following info:
1. A list of all the channels,
2. What number he needs to click to get them, and
3. A brief description of the type of progs the channel shows.

For example it would be useful for him to be able to use a list to see that if he clicks 46 then he will get Challenge which shows old gameshows and quizzes. (Or click 12, you'll get Dave and be guaranteed a full day of Top Gear and QI !!!)

Does anyone know where I might be able to get something like that without having to type it up myself?

Thanks.

Yes I saw that Fibonacci but it doesn't have the description of what type of programmes the channel broadcasts - (number 3 in my original post). For example he would have no idea what sorts of programmes would be on CBBC or Quest etc.
Thanks anyhow.
Most of the mainstream Freeview channels are listed in the Radio Times. Would that not do?
The Daily Mail Weekend magazine gives all the channel numbers at each listing,
eg. ITV3. Freeview 10 Freesat 115 Sky 119 Virgin 117.
Perhaps you could use the channel edit facility and put the channels he is used to watching at the top of the list. Other than that, show him how to use the EPG and how to highlight the programme and press the info button for a description of said prog.

Howard and Jack - I should have mentioned that his eyesight is poor and that the list I wanted to make would be in large print. He finds TV times, newspapers etc hard to read.

Dicky, once he is used to it and has favourite channels then I will use the channel edit facility. He needs to get used to what channels he likes and I was hoping a description of them might help.
I can't find what you need but here's a list in large print which you can cut and paste into a word. All you need to do is to add the description. Saves starting from scratch at least.

Thanks Maidup.
This pages gives the icon for each channel in it's appropriate category Entertainment, Sport etc) but perhaps still not enough detail for you? http://www.freeview.co.uk/Channels
constant auto re-tuning is a hazard for storing channel numbers.

Thanks echokilo, I saw that too and although I can't use it to print off, when I click on each channel icon it gives a description. So I foresee a frenzy of cutting and pasting ahead!

Not sure what you mean tamborine?

Ooh that's definately more like what I am after Howard - thank you.
Make sure when he is asked to do an update he presses the correct button for OK otherwise he may lose all his channels - I did.
Sorry what I mean is, he presses the 'OK' button. This will update all the channels, takes about three minutes.

Thanks smurfy.
It is worth going through and deleting channels he doesn't watch or want - there must be plenty. He will find it easier presented with less channels in the list.

It is also worth turning off the messages that say there are new channels - invariably it is just another shopping, porn or radio channel. There will be a way to do this buried in the settings

Each time you or he searches for new channels, all the ones you have deleted will re-appear.
