For some reason I tried to take my Russian wedding ring off and it will only move about 2mm (think its because my living room is so flipping hot). Now I have got my knickers in a twist that my finger is going to magically expand overnight - any tips for getting the damned thing off?

It's not tight on my actual finger, probably best not to mess with it any more, no idea why I tried to take it off in the first place. Potching with it has just made it worse! Shall leave it be and take it off in the morning (just so I know I can). On the plus side, if I have to have it cut off it is cheap (but sentimental).
I don't know if this works, read it many years ago.
Wrap thread around the finger above, but start it as close to, the ring as possible. Wrap as tight as you can stand for about an inch, gradually start to unwind the thread at the ring and push the ring up at the same time. As I say I don't know if it works, apparently it was used by a New York Fireman on a boy who had placed a steel ring over his finger.

It's three rings all joined somehow so the more you twist the tighter they get. It's not tight where it is, it's just now that I have tried to take it off (no idea why), its bugging me that I can't get the damned thing off. I think my hands have swollen as the wood burner is working again so the the living room is a bit 'toasty'.

Oh dear, can't add anything to what has already been suggested, but I do feel for you, same thing happened to me 10 years ago, I got in a right panic and once I got it off (finger under cold tap as I recall) I haven't worn it since! I'm sure my fingers have expanded with age ;(
Not as bad as hubby though, he got stung by a wasp and had to have his ring cut off!
