I suspect you refer to a series called 'Superstars' and not The Champions. It ran on BBC from 1975-82 and was presented by David Vine and Ron Pickering. The music is called 'Superstars' and was written by Johnny Pearson. You can find it on a double CD called 'This Is Easy' on Virgin (cat. no. VTDCD 80)
