Our Area / Your Area!
Car Insurance is determined & priced to your Postcode area, ours is BB7 the Blackburn area, this area is known for car thefts, car crashes & claims, we live approx 9 miles from that area & a medium size town, although our Post code is the same, why are we classed as a risk area?

Trigg, I follow what you are saying, but the difference between our town is (As you say) 9 miles, but this town, is a town & not a City & not a high risk area, after I posted this post I contacted my Car Insurance provider who could not give me an answer, then I contacted The Ombudsman who directed me to contacted my M.P. this is the avenue I will be taking.

, you are in an area of second lowest risk (and the lowest in BB area)
A = Low Risk
F = High Risk
* = Any motorcycles in areas D, E or F must be garaged in a locked and secured building whilst at the policy holders address. In some of these areas this may also apply to cars.

Hi TW - the only suggestion I can make is as others have said, to shop around. Are you being clear about where you actually live to these firms? Most of the Ribble Valley is not a high car crime risk - however a few small areas within it may be.
I live within 3 miles of Blackburn and am not high risk.....

Hi Mosaic, Yes, I can assure you I do look around, I have found regards Loyalty means nothing in the eyes of the Insurers, Although our post code given to this town is BB7 & is low risk in comparison to B.Burn, I can not figure out why we should be paying the same here as in Blackburn, as said, just before N.Evans I contacted the Insurance Regulators it was them that put me on to the said M.P. & was involved with this new Male / Female issue regards the cost of insurance.
/its a good link but still does not answer or justify the cost, as said, B/Burn is high risk, our town low, yet the premium is the same?/
that's odd twr
according to jonathan, whilst parts of Blackburn (2-3 and 11) are E and next to highest Risk, your address in BB7 is only a B, so next to lowest Risk

have you double checked that your premium really is the same as in the highest risk local area?
If so I'd try a different insurer (or lots): they don't all crunch the numbers the same way.
And your MP may be able to help. He can't order insurers what price to charge but he can protest out loud if they're stigmatising your locals as all being thieves.

Our car insurance was due for renewal, hubby thought it a bit steep so he looked on t'internet and found a quote that was 33% cheaper for exactly the same cover. I think some meerkats were involved somewhere along the way. I know that insurers use postcodes but there is no law governing what they charge. Similarly, there is no law that says your have to stay with the same company for ever. There are some deals out there, and it's never been easier to find them
Jno / Lyn, I do the rounds regards the cost/ Compare & the likes, a friend of mine in the said City pay the exact price as me with near enough the same details / age/ N.C.B. I have taken this up with our local M.P. I am now waiting for his response, I will come back & reply to this issue with the answer, but I'm sure there is a lot out there with the same Issue! Is there?
