why do american infomercials usaually  have an english person (quite often a scouser)selling the latest crappy gadget  in front of the fake audience ? do americans think that english people are more trust worthy??

Not neccessarily... but most Americans seem to find the English accent and phrasing more... well... civilized.  We haven't quite shed our colonist self-image yet (our history, exclusive of England, is only alittle over 200 years old).  Additionally, we certainly wouldn't use French or Germans (don't ask), but by using English actors the purveyor of the ads gets away from regional accents prevalent here in the U.S., which seems to make the audience more all inclusive... IMO...
