Personally I wouldn't let/encourage any of my children to get into boxing (although I can see it suiting thing 1, she would be ace at it).

It's not boxing (which I deplore), it's bareknuckle fighting to supposedly settle disputes or grudges between individuals or families. I think the whole thing is appalling.

Boxing when done properly through a club can be very character building for boys IMO (for argument's sake). It channels their energy and in general amateur boxers are not aggressive or get involved in fights outside the ring.

Boxing is character-building? Yes, if you want to raise people who believe that it's a good thing to inflict pain and possibly unconsciousness on fellow human beings. My sons' characters were built on being taught consideration and respect for other people, whatever differences they might have.
