the issue will be what has changed from the first time round - that suggests that this one may be more "knife-edge" in court when his defence team get going.

Victims of people involved in the Savile scandal didn't get their day in court because the police didn't believe them or the DPP thought the evidence wasn't strong enough to secure a conviction.
Whatever the eventual outcome here, the people making the accusations will be heard.

As there is no new evidence, I wonder what has made the CPS change its mind and decide to prosecute. Maybe the climate in light of the Savile enquiry perhaps?

It was decoded not to proceed with the charges in 2011 because of insufficient evidence and no prosecution resulted.

Now the evidence has been reviewed and it seems their is enough evidence after all.

I wonder how often that happens? I wonder if the fact he is famous means the authorities have taken more of an interest than if he was an ordinary man.

Ordinary man or megastar, nobody deserves to have to spend their lives with a cloud of suspicion hanging over them. They deserve their day in court, too.

Sandy, I think it is because of the Savile scandal that the CPS looked at the evidence again and thought it better to prosecute than not. He vigorously protested his innocence at the time so perhaps he will be glad to have his day in court.

It's because of Jimmy Savile. Someone has obviously decided that there's a possibility they might be accused of letting another one slip through the net. Savile was investigated on a number of occasions but always released.
That's why they've gone back and looked at these cases.

ITV say that he will not be appearing in Coronation Street pending the outcome of the trial. What about those that have already been recorded with him in it?

It is quite clearly panic on behalf of the CPS.

However, one wonders how he will get a fair trial with it all splashed across the papers.

Also he is dropped from Corrie, so if found not guilty will be able to sue the State. Lets hope they do have a concrete case or more tax payers money will be going down the drain.
