Mother Janis was acting very strangely, I watched her with Mitch being interviewed for the six oclock news ... she kept smiling and giggling and nodding her head while Mitch was talking - could explain a lot. Is she on something?

I haven't seen the clip, but it sounds like the typical behaviour of someone unused to the media, and simply being nervous.

Laughter is a release for tension, which is why some people laugh at totally inappropriate moments.

I would suspect that Mrs Winehouse simply felt a little on edge, and giggling and nodding are standard reactions in that situation.
