I see the BBC are again promoting David Bowie. Apparently there is an exhibition of his stage costumes on somewhere. The other month they were constantly promoting his new single, released on U tube. He was never on the show or even interviewed. Does he have shares in the BBC to get this much publicity?

The Star Trek one did, the Dr Who one did and the Princess Diana's Dresses one did for starters.

That would be irritating if you don't like the person/things being promoted. I love Bowie though :-)

I'm sure some of what they 'promote' is based on audience figures-age,interests,etc.

I agree with Ummmm - he is not on enough for me and which of the Xfactor winners will be still relevant in their 60's

David Bowie doesn't need promoting. He's a news story in his own right

I love David Bowie and couldn't get his new album quick enough. I am in London in April so will certainly be going to the V&A museum to see the exhibition.

I think they said, on BBC, that it was the fastest selling album, so they aren't promoting him, they are reporting on him because clearly there are lots of people that are interested.

Also it has always been my pet hate when people pronounce his name wrong, he said himself it rhymes with Joey, not 'boughy' as most people say.

Despite your feelings for him and his music quizzy, it is a newsworthy item. Bowie and his music has an iconic status in the British music scene, with a large and fairly devoted following.

His release of a new album after years of silence, in combination with a new show is,culturally speaking, a newsworthy event.

I was never a massive fan - I liked some of his stuff but not all, and I doubt I will be going to the show, but I did find it an interesting story, especially since his single has shot to number 1 ( although I understand that is a lot easier than it used to be, but still....)

I have nothing against David Bowie, I just wasn't into glam rock and there's not many of his songs I like really. Having said that I loved him in Labyrinth - he was a great goblin king! songs were great too.

Awww thanks for letting me know about the exhibition. I genuinely hadn't heard about it an I'm a great fan of Bowie. (but not a great fan of BBC magazine programmes)

Despite the fact that I'd missed it, I think the coverage is fair since his career has such longevity. Shout a bit louder about it quizzywig, at a glance i thought you were called ziggywig!
