I think maybe Spielberg would have done better with a period setting to be honest, making something a bit different in a new niche. The modern machines in this film juxtaposed alongside a period setting could have been fantastic. Could have been awful, but could have been fantastic.
I was in a way a little annoyed that they didn't change the ending to be honest as I heard they were going to. Then as soon as the red weed started to die I was a bit miffed as it was evident that they hadn't.
Still, not a bad film though.
