I do a lot of computer work at home also build computers.
While I buy many things over the internet and get them delivered I would always rather buy computer hard disks (and external hard drives) from a local shop like Currys etc as one hopes they have not been thrown around (so much?).
And if it is faulty when I open it then I can take it back to Currys (or wherever) very quickly.
It may cost a little extra but it is worth it for piece of mind.
I don't think it will do that much damage actually. As the comments on the Daily Mail piece highlight, most people seem to think that all courier firms are the same.
It is a major player in the parcel industry. They never advertise (At least not on the television) and they are quite ruthless. The depot in question is a franchise and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the franchisee and all the employees were replaced within a very short time.
To add insult to injury, the cheeky firms expect you to sign on delivery. In so doing you sign that you have received the items in good condition, but no delivery man is going to wait while you open every package and examine the contents. When you complain, the firm tries to avoid responsibility by pleading that you signed. When that happened to me, only the threat of litigation persuaded the firm to pay up.
