Well, thank goodness that is over. There was so much unsaid, I could not understand what was going on. What was wrong with them, Influenza? Did people think they had TB or the Plague? I just wish I had not bothered to watch it!

I thought the actor who played the grown up Bert was uncannily like the young Bert, very good pairing. Must admit it was a very depressing programme though.
Even though it was very depressing, life WAS probably like that in 1920 after the war which claimed so many lives. I actually thought it was quite a moving episode tonight, especially at the end when they added Joe's name on a special memorial. But where did the baby who Joe fathered actually go? I know he was given away - I bet he will reappear in the next series ................
I cried.............
Actually craft - I did too and it takes a lot to make me cry when it is only acted ...........
Gave up halfway through episode 1. I don't watch tv to be depressed.

It is depressing but brilliantly acted .
I haven't seen tonights episode yet but I was piping my eye last week when the shot rang out and you knew Joe had been executed .
They say there are 36 episodes in this though. How long are they going to string it out for ? Will it be six episodes a year . I'll be nearly 71 by the time it finishes :)

No you're not morbid at all. I had a dear friend who loved a good book .She always read the same sorts of things as me ( crime fiction ) .She had a terminal illness and used to phone me up and ask if I had read such and such, because she was reading it and wanted to know the ending just in case she passed away before the book was finished.

No bless her ,but I told her the ending .Her husband had the book ,complete with bookmark .He sent me the bookmark 'cos I collect them .It was from Westminster Abbey which she and I often visited together .I remember her buying it in the shop there .
Night Night pet ,take care x

I didn't understand much of it. Will watch it again.
very enjoyable. who was it who offered to buy the farm ?
I avoided it as it looked like a familiar and depressing tale reworked. Ripper Street was much more my kind of Sunday night viewing.
This was the 'plague' of 1918-1920. The worst flu pandemic situation that the world has had to face . It killed millions of people .Many of the ones who did get over it were sometimes inflicted with lifelong illnesses. All this
wasn't explained properly in The Village.
My uncle was going into the police force but after having this 'flu he was left with 'Parkinson's type symptoms for the rest of his life. His girlfriend died .
