Lottie tartare sauce is the reason to eat scampi. Like a TV chef said one day, the only reason to eat toast is real butter.............
(I don't really like Scampi, I think it is overrated)

I still have the remains of the Birds Eye fish fingers in the freezer. I wonder whether the dog might like them for dinner!!
Perhaps if I cover the remaining ones in Tartare sauce then Craft .................................
For those who enjoy 'proper' battered cod or haddock with our chips, after much research I have found the best by far is Aldi's Specially Selected extra large cod and haddock. 2 large fish per packet. Proper flakes of proper fish - a proper big fillet.

Lottie, proper wholetail scampi in a single piece is sublime. Not to be confused with formed scampi, or even worse - scampi bites.
Expect to pay good money for the real thing.
Haven't got an Aldi anywhere near. But think I might try Lidles who are comparable for the most part. Thanks.
I have never eaten scampi bites or anything but proper scampi. It doesn't do much for me, to be honest. I would rather have a piece of haddock!
I lied, I have eaten scampi formed things, but it wasn't much cop, and tartare sauce was very necessary!!
I fancy some surf n turf now!

I love fish finger sandwiches. I like tartare but prefer mayo in my sandwich.
Gawd, fish fingers ( proper cod ones ) chips and peas, mmmmmmm.
Love so called scampi even though there isn't any real scamp in it and yes with tartare sauce, scrummy..
got a local fish and chip shop that does home made tartare sauce , they also do whitebait, great stuff.

I love tartare sause too..

If you ever cook fried fish & chips at home using groundnut oil makes a huge difference to the flavour - (make sure no one is alergic to nuts though!). It is also fantastic for roasting potatoes.

Some products are disappointing I agree.
I helped out in a restaurant once and this regular customer always ordered whiting...used to scream at the owner if he didn't have it ready for her. Business requires alot of tongue biting...anyway Don who was very funny had run out of it again! and he was afraid of her and sick of her so he got some cod and got a steak tenderiser and was found bashing it in the kitchen until it was flat - then he got a red biro and painted little red dots on the back of it and served it up to her.
Whiting, or plaice?
headwreck thanks but fish mix not available here or Maggie stuff and I'm not too bothered with fish fingers but thanks for the tip.

Now scotch eggs I have to make from scratch including getting rare English sausages an

d skinning then. Take forever to

make so rare treat.
Sorry phone's gone crazy!
Sainsbury's own brand fish fingers are delish. Quite often have a fish finger sarnie late at night with loads of vinegar on it.
