Watching F1 on Sky TV and one commentator calls him Fettel and the other says Vettel - which is correct? Strangely this is as annoying to my ears as when Cher sung about Walking in Memfuss.

Sometimes a V in German is pronounced as an F sometimes like a V

like an F in Vier, Vogel, and Vettel ( meaning old woman )

Like a V in Leverkusen or Hannover
From the University of Portsmouth website:

//Strangely this is as annoying to my ears as when Cher sung about Walking in Memfuss//

then give her a miss and stick with the original version...

The correct pronunciation is Fettel, however it is the job of the British to mis pronounce foriegn words, especially names, at all times. There is a motorcyclist called HoareHay Lorenzo, in other words George!
TTT: and also to misspell English ones, eh?
Not as annoying as when people say 'sung' when they mean 'sang'
