Whose Idea?

Whose stupid idea was it to get hospital patients to choose food for their bed when only too often they will have been discharged and some other poor patient has to eat what someone else chose?
Not funny if you know you should be on a certain food regime and have no way of avoiding what you should not have. Apart from going hungry.

i have never had a problem (and ive been in hospital a lot) If you don't like what you've got, they just ring up the kitchen and they dispense something else (in our local anyway)

Was on medication which contraindicated grapefruit. And the morning juice was.....

In our hospital you make you choice at meal time. Meat slop, fishy slop, veggie slop, jacket potato or salad. They did away with pre-ordering some years ago.

I've never heard of this. Each time OH or I have been in hospital, they won't pre-order food if they think we might be discharged.

I have always considered that a hospital is a place where one goes to in order to be treated for some kind of illness and should not be confused with a restaurant.

Svejk, for a few years I worked as a medical technologist and quite often frequented the wards. It always appeared to me that the people with the less reason to be there were the most vocal in their complaints, often, obviously, concerning the food.

We, men, do tend to be more stoical about illness,though.;-)

I've been in hospital a fair bit and haven't had any issue. Usually I've been given a choice of what is available that is no longer needed or there is a back up of a sandwich/salad or something like toast.

Last time I was in they had cut down the pre-order menu considerably, the time before there was a great long list to pick from. I don't think that is a bad thing though, I imagine it is much easier to manage a smaller selection of meals.

There are little supermarkets and a McDonalds, Subway and Dominos right on the outskirt of the hospital which I imagine get used quite a bit! Quite a few places to get food in the hospital too, a number of cafes and couple of shops.
