For some reason or other that we don't know yet... I can't see Dumbledore making such a fundemental mistake when it comes to Snapes character; I for one am still not convinced he's evil...
My take on it was that Dumbledore and Severus (prior to Snape leaving to return to Voldemort) had the discussion which upset Severus greatly hence the argument, in Book 4 or 5, can't recall at the moment, about Snape killing Dumbledore. I think Dumbledore willingly sacrificed himself on behalf of both Harry and Draco, the former because he's integral to Voldemort's demise and the latter because Dumbledore (and Snape) were not going to allow another innocent (Draco is an arrogant nasty narrow minded coward/bully but not a murderer) to become Voldemort's next victim. I don't believe Snape is evil but he has his own share of demons. Here's a question, I wonder what the killing of Dumbledore did to Snape's soul?
izzziemizery, you should have posted a spoiler warning in your title for those who have not finished reading the 6th book yet.
I think Dumbledore and Snape knew exactly what was going on & they had probably discussed the possible outcomes. I think Dumbledore knew it would come to this back in Goblet of Fire at the end when he 'got a gleam in his eye' when Harry told Dumbldore about Voldemorts rebirthing ceremony & his use of Harry's blood. I think Dumbledore willingly & knowingly sacrificed himself (and I think Snape knew this was Dumbledore's intention) so that Harry would have a special protection and be able to go on to vanquish the dark lord. Dumbledore was not afraid of death. I think that had been made very clear.
Are any of you guys suspicious of Slughorn? where was he the whole time during Dumbledore's death? ...maybe Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him so that he could secure Voldomort's trust in Snape so that he could carry on spying on him??? ...that's why they(Snape+Dumbledore) were arguing about Snape not wanting to do "something" anymore!!?? The "something" being spying on Voldomort and securing his trust in Snape??? Does that make any sence??? |
I think the answers will be that: Snape is against Voldemort and with the Order but he must maintain Voldemort's confidence. He doesn't hurt Harry, who is the one to destroy Voldemort, using an excuse about Voldemort. However, when Snape arrives on the tower he says "Severus..Please". He is asking Snape to kill him, and Snape does, without further words and without evident pleasure. Snape and Dumbledore can read each other's thoughts and likely communicate the situation in this way on the tower. Why does Dumbledore want Snape to kill him? Answer: the locket in the green basin was not Voldemort's horcrux, THE GREEN LIQUID WAS! That's why it made Dumbledore so ill, because it contained a part of Voldemort's soul. So, DUMBLEDORE NEEDED SNAPE TO KILL HIM IN ORDER TO DESTROY THE POTION HORCRUX HE HAD DRUNK. Why else does Dumbledore insist on Harry making sure he drinks every last drop of the potion? Dumbledore knew he had to die in order to destroy the horcrux, and says there are worse things than death. Dumbledore persuades Malfoy not to do it to prevent Malfoy from becoming a Death Eater. Dumbledore probably also knows about the unbreakable oath Snape took. Since Dumbledore must die anyway, Snape does it to save himself, destroy the horcrux and CEMENT SNAPE'S CREDIBILITY WITH VOLDEMORT. Snape will prove to be the key wizard and successor of Dumbledore as leader of the Order, and maybe come back at the end as headmaster. Note Dumbledore's unshakeable confidence in Snape, based on evidence he will not mention. I hope my view will be correct. It will be hopelessly boring if Snape turns out to be an evil wizard and Voldemort ally all along. Maybe he'll even die heroically in book 7. He is clearly the most interesting character in the series at this point.
Yeh, if u read the interview with JK, she says R.A.B is mentioned in the books.
It must be Regulus Black, I can't think who else has those initials.
And the horcruxe can't be the green liquid. What does that have to do with Voldemorts past? I reckon the green liquid was something to do with Dementors, cos it seemed to make Dumbledore relive his worst memories... I dunno anyway, I'm still thinking about it.
