I always skip through the first 5 minutes though as it shows the same clips every week. It must be an eye-opener for many who went to school 40+ years ago when there wasn't anywhere near so much support and counselling available. It also showed the real dedication teachers and support staff have and that in time many pupils do start to mature as a result.
Whilst there were some behavioural issues on the series, I feel they were quite mild. Based on my experience of schools I suspect there were a lot of behavioural issues which didn't get shown since it wouldn't show the school up in a good light or parents wouldn't agree to the footage being shown.

Factor-fiction, 40 years ago there wasn't the need for the support and counselling as people had a much closer family support network. Educating Yorkshire has done the profession a lot of good I think, in that it has shown how much of a school's resources are spent on pastoral care. There has been very little actual teaching shown. I wonder how these young people, especially the drama queens, will cope after school when an employer won't want to act as an unofficial social worker?
One thing it didn't approach, other than in relation to the pupils, is that schools also get involved inthe parents' problems too, especially at the primary level where, usually, Mums take their marital, neighbour, financial problems to the school. Many hours are spent sorting their problems out too.

Absolutely brilliant television.
"Do you like me eyebrows? I've shaved them all off" - possiblyy the funniest lie of the year.
The headmaster was just...just...brilliant. So much respect for him. Also, you may not know this, but he' become a bit of a gay icon according to some of my friends.
Haven't seen last night's episode, but I expect it might be a bit of a sobfest..!

I've loved this programme...I hope it has been an eyeopener for many.
Zebo's post about bringing problems into primary schools is so true. Our head dealt brilliantly with everything til MrsX arrived wearing a very tight Tshirt and no bra. We had a chest height ledge just inside his office door and she planted both boobs on the ledge......'ere, Headmaster....she announced... 'ave a look at these....I'm worried cos one seems to be getting bigger than the other..What do you think?
'Twas the first time we saw him blush and splutter.....☺

I enjoyed it too and some of the kids were so funny without knowing it.
The eyebrows girl was funny, so was the blonde girl who said 'whatever' when the teacher pointed out that there was a difference between letters and numbers!
My favourite was the little lad who said last night he could say and understand long words.
There is a programme on E4 called Educating Essex that I have recorded. Don't know if its old or new.
