Was watching a film on 'catch up tv' which I haven't seen for over 20 years the other day.

I was really looking forward to it, but as I was watching it, realised that in the intervening decades it had gone from awesome to awful.

That film was 'Superman II'.

As a kid, I LOVED that film...but now it just seemed rubbish.

Which films have disappointed you after years of loving them?

(On the opposite end of the scale, each time I watch The Godfather Pt II, I find it better and better).

was that the one where he spun the planet backward?* I thought at the time that was rather feeble. But I have always been a fan of Richard Lester, so I watched it with enjoyment, but haven't been back to it since.

*uh, spoiler alert, I suppose
Lol... I always make my kids watch films from my childhood.... I remember making them watch something recently, and I thought it was utter rubbish... But I can't for the life of me remember what is was!! Lol!
The sunshine boys original ,woody allen remake was whats that word im looking for
Breakdance, was a great film or so I thought, I made my daughter sit and watch it with me after telling her how fab it was.........or not!

It was dreadful.
Watched the original Star Wars trilogy, Raiders series and Jaws with my kids, and they all stood the test of time. Gonna try the original James Bonds next.
The Warriors. Now very cringeworthy.
Agree with Superman II
I think a lot of the Bond's aged badly (film's not actor's)
Any film that reflect's "Its generation" such as "Easy Rider" because as a 30 year pold I cant relate.
The Michaeal keaton Batman films dont hold up against against the newer ones and seem a bit slapstick and poorly written
Grease - Because they all look about 32 in it!!
Anything with Harrison Ford in. He has been part of some epic adventure movies, but he cant act!! The Fugitive, Clear and Present Danger etc
Cape Fear with DeNiro, unfortunately the only film with him in I dont like. Laughable performance.

I could think of loads, good question!
Forget the name but Noel Coward was posh and admired ships captain and John Mills ,I think, as twitchy dumb Cockerny innit. Typical of the Class conscious England.
any hammer horror film ... which i loved fifty years ago
In which we serve? Was it Dicky Attenbourough who played a coward who only need a good talking to from the posh chap to do his duty?
sounds like a euphemism sandy
It was supposed to be based on an incident in Mountbatten's naval career. With Noel Coward playing Lord Louis, Dicky must have considered himself lucky that it was only their boat that was torpedoed.
a lot of the horror films i watched, that terrified me are a bit rubbish now, probably because the special effects have moved on so much

although saying that i still can;t watch alien or American werewolf in london as they both terrify me
Anything with a mobile phone in it.
Did you mean Flashdance Rocky? Watched that the other day and thought it was awful, even her big dance audition that was so iconic at the time looks really unpolished and unexciting now.

I still love 'Grease', but now when I watch it, I think "How the dickens did they get away with this? They are all supposed to be high school kids and half of them look like they could pass for the teaching staff".

And yes - a lot of horror films have not stood the passage of time because special effects have moved on so much.

But there's one film I'd not watched for a few years, that I slung on the telly a couple of weeks ago, and I'd completely forgotten how funny it was - 'Singin' In The Rain'.

Everyone remembers the dancing, but there's a great actress in it who plays a beautiful silent movie star with a hideously grating New Joisey accent.

Basically every scene she's in is hilarious.

And I'd forgotten that.
some films get better with age, i still watch Casablanca and think what a great story, cast.
