I went to see my gp about my anxiety in regards to my biopsy results on the mole I had removed on the 15th November. He told me that the mole is 99.9 percent benign skin tag that is pigmented and he hadn't even sent the mole off yet either so he had it in his office for a week and abit. However he also said if he had any doubt he would of referred me to a dermatologist and gps are not allowed to removes moles that look malignant. However the lab rang me that day saying my mole has been lost as on the system he processed it through as sent on the 15th November even though he didn't send it off till the Tuesday that I went to see him. Now has he done this as he is so confident or has he generally forgot to send it and can a gp give you 99.9 per cent re assurance before something like that is tested. Gp's are not dermatologists and that's what scares me. :-( I should have results Tuesday the lab said as they got it on the Wednesday just gone a week and abit late!!! Is this a good sign that my gp told me all this?

I shall be interested to see what Sqad thinks of this development.
shock headline : GPs are human beings!

If sqad comments il shall be reporting him as I wouldn't spend my time making up a fake story on such a serious subject now will you please stop trying to be little me!

Yes true they are humans but leaving it a week to send off isn't good practise surely? Say if it is cancerous then that week can be the difference !
I think you will find that sqad's bark is worse than his bite - he is one of the few on this site that can give you a clinical answer. None of us can give you an answer that will reassure you - you are going to have to wait until the report comes back from the lab.

I would have thought that a 99.9% reassurance that it is benign would have been good news.
I'd have thought GPs were the first point of call for people who are concerned about moles and see quite a lot of them during their professional life and have a good idea as to what to look for when assessing them and deciding whether to refer and the urgency of a referral.
Well....report me.....the AB removed my last comments, so they might as well finish the job

THERE IS NO MOLE.

Thank you eve just such a horrible wait :-( that's all it's nice to get different people opinions and experiences themselves.
I'm surprised he delayed sending it off, but he's done it now - I wonder why the delay? Please be assured that even just by looking at a mole or lesion, it's often possible to tell from its "look" whether it's benign or not, there are charts and descriptions which drs and nurses use for the first look at something, to see if it's in the dodgy category. It's true that most GPs are generalists and not specialists, but if he took the mole off, he may have an interest in dermatology (I know GPs who do, other GPs refer to them), so I wouldn't let it worry you.

I'm very surprised that the lab rang you - why did they do that? - it's not usual for the lab to communicate with the patient, at all.

Not long now to wait until your results are in. Let us know.

Thanks box tops! Just want to know now so I can look forward to christmas!
Cyprus, i think if he was at all uncertain, he would have sent it straight off- if only to cover himself. He obviously has no concerns and will have a very good idea of what he's looking at. It all looks good, so far and the results will hopefully soon confirm. Sqad says it as he sees it, which is useful.
can understand your concern waiting for results cyprus, I will waiting on my bladder op results for the next 4--6 weeks they tell me.
Its a bit of a worry, but keep busy and hope the time flies by quick x

Hi pusskin its such a horrible wait isnt it , I hope everything goes ok for you let me know the outcome please. To all you other guys I rang the histology lab this morning as I am so nervous now and she told me it has not been put through as an urgent case and it is with the doctor who will test it , however as she knew how anxious I was she said she will go and speak to the doc to see what is going on. Half hour later she rang me back saying he has just kindly tested it and reported it back to your gp so i will have the result tomorrow. Is this a good sign that its only taken him just under half hour to test it and send the report back as she told him how anxious I am.? alos she wouldnt tell me the result as she said my gp has to read the report first and authorize it.
