Dry and calm here in South Cambs

No excitements lined up for today, but they happen anyway. Had just stoked up the fire to a good flame now, when the chimney started to roar like a jet engine at take off. I thought the chimney was on fire, and waited for the downpour of hot soot. Nothing. Then a great mass of burning twigs landed in the hearth. Yup. A jackdaw's nest had been hit by a spark, caught fire, and fallen down the chimney.

The birds must have built it between the chimney being swept and the anti-jackdaw net being fitted. They didn't hang about !

Ah well, and I thought Sunday lunch with my daughter and shifting an old mattress out of the garage to the skip was going to be the great excitement of the day.

Birds can build a nest quite quickly I guess.
As long as they dont come back and attack like in Birds..that was a scary movie...crows and jackdaws probably look more frightening than they are.

By the way re-the Sock saga - Have you posted yet!?

Sock saga? Is that where I thought "Fifty Shades of Grey" was a steamy novel about my socks life? You know, however many pairs of black socks I have to start with, in a few minutes there are no pairs at all, just single socks of varying lengths and all of different shades of grey/ black ?

Sock saga? I wish you guys would put a sock in it: it's almost midnight here and I'm about to go to sleep, and you lot are talking about four and twenty black birds in a bleedin' chimney!.

Thats terrible. Could tag them! Some washing powders have alot of whitening agents and it shouldn't but perhaps that might be what is happening or you are boiling them! Ahhh

Meant to tell you - when you have time /get a chance look up Dr Hilary Roberts and Dr Stephen Hickey. Scientists who are pretty hot (if controversial) and you might find what they have to say of interest.

I thought the mother was dodgy right from the start. Everything seemed out of kilter with the truth and I thought that she knew MUCH more than she was letting on. No doubt more info will come out as the days/weeks go by. Very sad outcome.

waterboat - I know. The child was in a different room the night he was meant to have disappeared..not in the same room as the other kids and a few things didn't add up but we'll have to wait to find out what really happened.
It is so very sad.

Once she appears in court tomorrow to be formally charged and committed for trial more information will be released...

A strange case indeed. I hope we find out what made her do it.

"Charged in connection with" is not "charged with". She may have been charged with obstructing a coroner, or with assisting an offender, for example.
