/// In December, BBC management told programme producers there was "no excuse" for not having women on comedy panel shows after new sex-representation objectives were set by the BBC Trust. In July last year, the Trust asked BBC director general Tony Hall to get more women on air "as a matter of urgency" throughout 2013-14. ///

Will this make them more funny, or is it yet another equality exercise by the BBC?

Joan Rivers, Sqad?
''How long before Top Gear has a female presenter?''

Er... 'Captain Slow' pretty much fills that gap.

I cannot think of a single female comedian who makes me 'lol'.
chrissa.....since sp1814's post above....I have been thinking.
Joan Rivers........at a push....she is funny.
Joe Brand........just vulgar......i don't mind funny vulgar, but she is unfunny vulgar.
Helen lederathingmeabob ..can't remember her name...she thinks she is funny.

No, the only one i can think of is Janet brown.

Sorry ladies.
Adding women to the panel shows like QI and Mock The Week will not change them from what they are - giant smug-offs with men using that blokey public bar way of talkint to each other which automatically shuts off the interest, and interest in participation, of a large number of women.

I don't watch any such shows for that reason, I find them both boorish and boring, and can't imagine that the presence of a woman is going to change their intrinsic appeal.
There are quite a few funny comediennes I just can't remember their names.
Perhaps that explains why the 3 guests on recent QIs have all been women - Sue Perkins, unfunny Jo Brand, Lisa Tarbuck, etc.
good to have a balance, and i do think sometimes, though not always, having women on panel shows, makes the blokes a little less sexist, noisy, and up themselves, if you see what i mean.
there are any number of good women comics, i like Sandy Toksvig, she is clever and funny, Victoria Coren Mitchell the same, Sarah Millican can be good
some of the women are even more vulgar, though - depends on the woman. Joak Bakewell on HIGNFY was hilarious.
sometimes they are, sometimes they can play the game better than the guys, Victoria Coren does often.
Sue Perkins is on Q1 quite a lot, but so are Alan Davis, Bill Bailey, Andy Hamilton, Jimmy Carr who i don't find funny, Ross Noble should be on all the time, he is a star act, quietly bonkers.
and men on loose women?... if you get my drift.
loose women should be given the order of the boot, its not informative, funny or remotely interesting, total waste of time
