Good evening viv. I have read all the books by both authors and my favourite,is Roy Grace. I watched the first TV adaptation of DCI Banks and was very disappointed. IMO Stephen Tompkinson in the lead role was a very bad choice. Also,as was said earlier, there is too much poetic licence involved.
Avid reader of both of those. Forget the TV portrayal of Banks, nothing like the books. Both are quite a similar style, and I have both of the latest to read yet. There's also meant to be a TV production of the first Roy Grace book, about a stag night that goes wrong. Wonder who they'll cast for that?
I've read ALL books by both Robinson and James and have to say that I much prefer John Rebus by Ian Rankin and also Logan McRae by the wonderful Stuart MacBride.
Yes I have, viv38, and enjoyed their books. I realize that they are only novels, but when reading them I find it very interesting to see the different methodologies in policing between the UK and over here.
I knew you'd say that craft ! For me, DCI Banks just has the edge, although I like them both. Davetuc, I agree, I can't stand Stephen Tomkinson's Banks, he's far too dour and I can't watch it. Can't wait for the TV portrayal of Roy Grace. I'll have to have a think about who could play him.
I like all the above .Plus Kurt Wallander ,Harry Bosch and Commissario Guido Brunetti amongst others .
I can't watch Banks the TV series .Stephen Tompkinson is so wooden .Not my idea of Banks at all.
I always imagined Neil Pearson as Banks, and Ciaran Hinds as Roy Grace, although he has already appeared in the Lynda La Plante 'Above Suspicion' series as James Langdon. Favourite Banks book was 'The Summer That Never Was'.
