I think samuel barber originally composed it, although Im not 100% sure!
you're correct pjb1, it's also featured heavily in the brilliant film Platoon. Awesome tune, very haunting

Thanku both, i have the samuel barber version it is fantastic i know, that is why i was asking because the one in the trailer is more modern kinda remixed, sounds really good!! you dont know who remixed it do you?? again thanku for any help

William Orbit did a fantastic remix of it a few years ago which was used in the film "Kevin and Perry go large"

I don't know it that helps?

Done some checking and apparently Mark Isham has composed the soundtrack music, but the version of 'strings' your after was played by the Taliesin Orchestra. (whoever they are). Hopes this is of some help.
Jeez I must be bored, found it on a 2002 album called : Sacred.
