They walked out of TOTPs due to Kevin Bacon being a rude little man.  Kevin Bacon should be thankful he has a career as he is so useless.... Nice to see a band stick together.

Do you mean Richard Bacon?

Kevin Bacon is a Hollywood actor.

Only a humourless American would be so thick as to interpret "they're in a far melting pot of talent" as "they are fat".  Obviously the woman in the band has a complex about her weight.

Question Author

Richard - yes.  Whether or not she has a complex, it is completely unacceptable for anyone to comment on someone else's shape.  Especially when they were on a show to play music and not on some morning chat show where it is commonplace to discuss everything.

Have to completely agree with Nicola.....can't really see how his comment was offensve unless you are sensitive to the point of paranoia.   I can't believe they walked off because of it.
I too agree with Nicola - they strike me as a band trying to create an image for themselves

Saw "The Magic Numbers" support Brian Wilson last month in Eastborne.

Rarely has the support been as good as the main act. I actually sat behind them when they watched Wilson. I can trufully say that whilst I was earwigging I found the whole band to be completely down to earth and most pleasant.

Regarding being fat OFCOURSE they are sensitive. Whilst a few people, and I say a few, are genuinely content with being porkers most would love a slimline body. So next time in the office be a little more sensitive to us chozzers. Dieting is not as easy as the media makes out!!

It is refreshing and nice to see such a talented new band rely on good music and bandship as opposed to image.

Besides I find the girls of The Magic Numbers very attractive indeed. The one with huge eyes is a princess. So there!

Mr Bacon go and give your crass little views to the underage jaw heads who seem to think you have a modicum of coolness. Methinks you are a little insecure in yourself, possibly from a broken heart years ago???

Ouch.

I think the fact they walked out was the only thing that highlighted what he said, and drew attention to their weight. Nobody would have noticed otherwise.

'fat melting pot of talent' is not offensive!

They're a good band, bacon is out of his depth as a interviewer anyway..hes a kids presenter..the numbers should have chinned him, before they left..
haha one of them looks like a podgy john travolta crossed with chris moyles!! ah bless! but really tho, if they are that sensitive about weight comments(?!) don't be in a band or go on tv!! geeze!
Agree with luckyboy - Bacon is a useless presenter. As for the Magic Numbers, I think they did the right thing and weren't being over-sensitive at all. Would Richard Bacon called Kaiser Chiefs or Franz Ferdinand ' a big fat melting pot...'? I think not. He was trying to be subtlely witty but was just rude and unfunny.
Saw the Magic Numbers at T4 On The Beach, pretty good band I must say. Can't stand Bacon, reminds me very much of Iain Lee. Is he (Bacon) still going out with that Konnie Huq?

he might well have referred to the Kaiser Chiefs as 'a fat melting pot' of talent, as it's simply a phrase. I do, however, agree that he used the word 'fat' on purpose, but I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion and nobody would have noticed a thing if the band hadn't kicked up a fuss.

I do think Bacon's an arse though. And so up his own too.

Whether he was rude or not,I'm just glad it has highlighted what a total useless ****er Richard Bacon is.

His presenting skills on "This Morning" are so  cringingly awful, he looks sly and slimy, and is certainly no oil painting himself. Are we really that hard up for good presenters that this buffoon gets at least 6 shows a week????

surely he was trying to be both funny and dergatory. The offensive remark came as part of a "joke" - "what do you get if you put 2 brothers and sisters in a band?" - "A big fat melting pot of talent". In what way would this have been supposed to be funny if it wasn't supposed to be a play of the 2 meanings of fat, the figurative and the factual use.

I don't think it's funny, or OK, and I think they were right to be offended. Richard Bacon should get over himself and stick to being a presenter (if he must) and not a comedian
