The Bloke On Who Wants To Be A...

Apart from the unlikelyhood of so many passengers surviving without any major trauma, there were a couple of things that I questioned in the first couple of eps.
- Everyone referred to their location as an island, but how do they know they are on an island?
- Why did they jump to the conclusion that the bear was a polar bear, when an albino bear would seem more likely?
I have seen the full series already, and I found that pointing out the niggles was half of the fun!

hubby then went on to predict(while half watching and doing suduko puzzle) junkie in loo getting his stash ,handcuffs were on the woman and the bear..Told him to keep his mouth shut in next episode,
Don't know about the island (though someone may have had some tidal/weather etc related thought - it's been a long time since I saw it), but Polar Bears look quite different to normal bears. If they'd been in an artic-type environment and found a Koala Bear, you wouldn't expect them to assume it was a dirty, stunted, Polar Bear!
As for the survivors, seeing that many people survive a crash like that is pretty unlikely in itself - but to discuss that further might seem like spoilers for those that haven't seen more of the show.
I think they knew it was a polar bear because it must not have had red eyes. Plus polar bears have black noses whereas an albino bear would have had pink skin everywhere.
As for knowing it was an island, I concur with spud queen. The pacific is full of little islands, the biggest ones are still weeny, and if they were on a big enough landmass with a beach like that there would be signs of civilisation... even if just a Coke stall (!). Plus even if it was a huge island, if it is uninhabited, then the size of the place really doesn't make any difference. if it was inhabited someone would have noticed a plane crashing into their beach...
