What sort of angle are they taking - work shy scum or people on the edge?
Question Author
Not sure, I do find it disturbing.
Vie given up watching these things, it's usually one extreme or the other, don't recall seeing a balanced programme about benefits.
I'm finding it very upsetting.
Get evicted...or take a house out of the area, and have to spend an extra £350per month to get to job. The way its portrayed, they are under a lot of pressure to make on the spot desicions.

I know I shouldn't, but this is saying to me......look, I had seven kids here in your country, it's your job to pay my rent and bills. :(
Some people can't win, almost like kicking the underdog.

What happened to finding a home BEFORE you had kids.
But they have homes...and are employed. Its the benefit caps that are throwing people out on the street. The rent that had been covered, no longer is.

Thanks.

For a lot of people there is a problem of an earnings cap too- employers will only pay the going rate and not what people need. It's a harsh world for many, whether working or on benefits.
My first answer was "don't start me off"

However, to be a bit more constructive, why do these people keep churning out children when they are in such dire straits? I've only been watching for five minutes. Customer 1 - five children (earning £150pw, drawing £800pw) ; customer 2 - seven children; customer 3 - nine children; customer 4 (studying) three children.

All these people are receiving two or three times the basic state pension.

Don't start me of !!!
Its difficult isn't it? I really do get the argument that its not fair for taxpayers who can't afford to rent somewhere with enough rooms to subsidise people on benefits so they can have bigger accommodation that the non benefit claimer has.....but if there is nowhere to downsize to....
and I am really sorry but I can't agree with an argument i heard this morning which was "I need a spare room for when my grandchildren stay over"
Yes and factor has mentioned a very relevant point. Employed people have to cut their cloth.
People occupying social housing should only have the bedrooms they need, keeping a 'spare' room is selfish. Lots of people who own their homes don't have 'spare' rooms.
I agree sherrard, but I do have some sympathy for people who have really tried to downsize and found nowhere to go.

Agree!

Agree!
I feel sorry for the ones who have been told to get a part time job to get around the cap. Shocking!
