To Annoy Anne - The Weegie Games - A Salmond Publicity Stunt?

Seriously, this is beyond the independence issue, I just hope Salmond realises that.
I hope all of you in Scotland, and those ABers living in the Glasgow area, have a fantastic time these next ten days. Good on you and the way that you have received the Commonwealth athletes and officials. Enjoy the results and fruit of your hard work in setting the Games up.
The question: comments on the opening ceremony? Nice to see Hazel Irving as the Scottish major link on this.....
And yes, is Archie Macpherson featuring somewhere? Good old Archie, a national legend, indeed.

One of my favourite stories of all time was from Alan Coren, journo and a beautifully cynical/satirical writer for the Times. His daughter is Victoria, the quizmistress, poker player and comedienne.
Alan wrote of the differences between Glasgow and Edinburgh, Glasgow being an earthy city, hard-working Weegies, door, down to earth, the place wrecked, dirty and smoky - just look at some of the tenement blocks, bombed out, plastered - in fact in an alcoholic haze - hard hitting, one example being on a Saturday night - if you are out and about, you can find a knife at your back, 'An who do you support, Jimmy?' - a nigh on 50:50 if they push it home or give you a wee dram. If you say, 'Queen of the South' nearly a 100% chance that you get the knife.
Edinburgh - the opposite, potentially a very beautiful city, if they clean it up (which they have), lots of iconic buildings and sights, but quiet, really quiet, no atmosphere or rawness of Glasgow, full of 'wee Marys,' politically 'conservative' in life, thought and deed.
What would be the ideal situation for Scotland, having Glaswegians living in Edinburgh.
Good in thought but wait to the aftermath of the first Saturday night.

I'm hoping my daughter might get her mugshot on there.....Bex gave up her 21st birthday celebrations and her summer working to volunteer at the games, we didn't think she'd get the chance but she did and she's had an absolute.... really not that interested personally but.... so proud of her giving up these things for this
