In last night's Corrie, the bailiffs went to Debbie Windass'/Owen Armstrong's house and entered the house while only Faye was present. I've always thought bailiffs weren't allowed to enter a house if only a child (e.g. someone under the age of 16) was present. OK, before we get the usual 'It's not real life, it's only a soap' merchants, surely even soaps have a duty to reflect real life in an accurate way when dealing with a subject of bailiffs and their rights. To be fair, there was an announcement before the episode that some viewers may find the scenes upsetting. I did find them a little upsetting, especially when they took Faye's laptop, but I was more concerned those scenes might be misleading.

This is a quote from the Gov.UK website:-

'Bailiffs can’t:
enter your home if only children or vulnerable people are present'.

Just wondered what others thought about how bailiffs were portrayed in this episode.

I thought that too, I suppose for the purposes of the story line it wouldn't have worked any other way - none of the grown ups would have opened the door.
IN one of the episodes o f Sheriffs, the 16 y o gives one of them the keys to the car they are repossessing....

I suppose possession is 9/10ths of the law
Debbie Rush/Anna Windass is very appealing...can she appeal against the illegal entry of bailiffs, i wonder?
It was Anna Windass's house and Gary told Faye not to let anyone in whilst he went to the shop but Faye wasn't really paying attention and as it is Soapland this was intentional for dramatic effect!
.

They certainly have to give it back if they take something and its not the debtor's.

In this casee I am not sure...

In one of Rumpole's cases Hilda is reading a Daily Telegraph which has a headline Bailiffs seize and sell wrong car....
Come back, Eddie Windass...he'd sort it out!

Ha Ha, I agree, Jomlett, Eddie Windass would frighten anybody away. :)
I thought Corrie were usually pretty good on getting their storylines right, but unfortunately in this instance, the researchers hadn't done their job!

Caribeing- it's not Anna's house, it's Owen's. Anna is his tenant.
are they allowed to take a computer with all your private info on ? i wouldn't have thought so,
Certainly not allowed to take a laptop without checking whose it is and as it is Faye's they are not allowed to take it.
Surely if Anna is the tennant they could not removed her stuff.
Did the bailiffs know that Faye was home alone? I don't recall her saying that, she just invited them in without giving them a chance to speak.
Once they realised Faye was on her own, they should have left immediately but Gary turned up which allowed them to stay.

They can and do take personal pcs, laptops and smartphones. They shouldn't take goods belonging to children and if they do they should be returned if the proper procedure is followed. Usually it is necessary to prove ownership which should be easy with a laptop. If it has Owen's business accounts on it it will be harder to prove it is solely Faye's.
She isn't the tenant, though. She is Owen's partner and it is his home too - the home he has all his mail addressed to.
Anna and Eddie Windass were originally tenants, Eddie walked out leaving Anna to manage on her own. Then:

In July 2011, Owen purchased 6 Coronation Street so that Anna Windass would have a secure home for her adoptive daughter.

She is still Owen's "tenant" (and partner).
Agree Tizzi.
I disagree. You can't be a tenant if you are sharing the property with the landlord and don't have an exclusive room. If they weren't in a relationship, Anna and Faye would be lodgers.
Still agree with you Tizzi.
