Just read that Robin Williams has been found dead at his home - aged 63.He was one of my favourite actors.

may he RIP, but as an actor I could not stand him, gave me the creeps, did not find him funny at all, the only film I ever liked with him in it was Mrs Doubtfire.

His Agent has said that he had been fighting depression for some time.How sad.

Robin Williams, hate to be a grunch, - a comic genius but a right misery in real life - met him in Lochinver in the hotel up there and he didn't come across in the manner they are eulogising him with, very different to Steve Martin, who I can not stand as an actor, but is a very charming and naturally funny man....However, one has to recognise that Williams was like Merton, the genius with this depressive side to him. It's tragic when it results in suicide though and thoughts must go out to his family.

It is very sad that he apparently took his own life and couldn't find help but as an actor I agree with Dee-Sa, far too frantic and self-absorbed. He did mellow with age however, loved his performance in Good Will Hunting, a superb film.

DTC - lochinver - Did williams have an English connection - other than he spoke a variety of er English ?

He did a teevee trailer thingey where I (mis) understood that he had done some time in Oldham poor fellow - but I think I must have been drinking and he really said - he would really like to do some time in a place like - well - Oldham....or some other sunny and friendly place

It's a really sad thing that people always expect comedians to be 'on', never just to be themselves. I think that's why s many suffer from depression and so many ultimately kill themselves.

The art which the Depression sufferer learns early on in their condition, is concealment - the ability to disguise the agony and paint on a public mask which can fool almost everyone.

Fellow sufferers can see through it though, the empathy means that you can spot a fellow sufferer reasonably easily.

So a comedian and actor has an easier time than most in hiding his or her agony - painting on a personna is second nature - and we know how good Robin Williams was at doing that.

So sad that one more lost soul suffered the isolation that makes death a preferable alternative, and thank heavens that thus far we have had no posters trotting out cliched nonsense about him being 'selfish' or 'brave'.

You don't need to be selfish or brave to take your life - just desparate enough.

I hope we all remember Robin for the joy he brought to us, and not the pain that crushed him in the end.

Personally I think it is the other way around, I think depression brings out the side that wants to make yourself and other people happy and laugh.

RIP Robin. A brilliant man indeed!!
